There is never a time or place for true love. it happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.
Despite the TINY TINY amount of interaction they had, I really thought it was a great episode for them.
Derek’s patients and the situations he was put in really mirrored his personal life in a way that helped him to think and deal with it in a more rational manner. I particularly liked the sad moment where he was talking to the young boy about his father dying (poignant given Derek’s own father died) and that’s probably when it really became cemented in Derek’s mind that he didn’t want to miss out on his kids’ lives.
Meredith was given the opportunity to succeed in a manner that she’s been wanting for so long, though things didn’t exactly go to plan, but I was proud of the way she handled things eventually.
As for them together, well that moment at the end was such an important point for them. Derek’s deciding to stay is in my opinion a much more ‘in-character’ move for him to make regarding his family. They’ve always been his priority, he just needed a gentle nudge in the right direction. But we’ve got to remember that Meredith didn’t want to go to DC because she didn’t want to resent Derek, and so there’s that implication now that perhaps Derek will resent Meredith because he’s staying. Or at least that’s probably what’s weighing on Meredith’s mind. Added to that is that lack of support Meredith is feeling due to Derek’s initial decision to move with or without her. They need to build up that trust, and that ability to rely on one another before things can get better. This was a step, and I’m not even sure it was necessarily a step in the right direction, save for the fact that they’ll now still be in the same city.
All in all, I’m incredibly excited for what’s to come given that the first episode gave us some real goodies.
^^ All of this.
Totally agree! Couldnt have said it better!
